holy 100K

As we traveled to our favorite mandarin grill place for dinner last night, our Pathfinder flipped 100,000 miles. We been debating buying another car and trading this one in, but she's paid for and running great still. So a little maintenance attention and she'll be good for another 50K. Plus we're battling about what we would buy for another vehicle. Dan wants a subaru wagon and I don't. Not sure what I want, but not a subaru wagon. Not that there's anything wrong with them = I think they're great cars. Many friends of mine own them. Along with half the population of this city !!

I love my Pathfinder.

when's the next holiday ?

Pretty quiet weekend at the Dlubac homestead. Yard work, nap, more yard work, another nap. We went to Alki this morning for coffee and a walk, before the crowds came.

back to the grind tomorrow...

nanoo nanoo....

Dan and I are going to see Robin Williams tonight at the Showbox in Seattle. He's been in town this week doing small shows to work on new material. Monday's show was a benefit for the West Seattle Food Bank. Tuesday's show benefited the Seattle Animal Shelter and tonight's show is for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The venue only holds 500 seated, so it should be a good show !

james j hill..........

I pass this statue on campus almost every day. It is placed in front of More Hall - home to the Civil Engineering Department. Who the hell is James J. Hill? Why is he in front of the CE department ? Was he not deemed as important as More to have a building named after him ? Only worthy of a statue ? Here's what I found - quite the correlation.

And here he is addressing the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the 1909 AYPE (Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition).

three cheers for the Copper River run !

It's Copper River Salmon season again ! Every May, around the 15th, the first salmon of the season return to the rivers and streams of Alaska with the Copper River being one of the first. King, Sockeye, and Silver salmon embark on long journeys up the Copper River to spawn and lay their eggs. As salmon begin their last journey up this home stretch and prepare to mate, their feeding habits diminish. Because the Copper River salmon's journey is so long, they must store extra fat and oils in order to survive the long trip. This high fat and oil content is why Copper River salmon are recognized as some of the world's best eating salmon. It's what we're having for dinner tonight. And hopefully every night until it's all gone. It is the most fantastic fish I have had and worth all the hype it receives.

back from the land of Lincoln....

I was in Illinois last week visiting my mom - helping her recover after having knee surgery on Tuesday. The weather was really nice while I was there. A record high on Monday of 93 ! A bit hot for May, but the humidity was only 20%, which makes a HUGE difference. Cool clouds on Thursday:

I took some shots of Mount Rainier on the flight to Chicago:

speaking of scooters.......

While driving home with my friend Erin the other day, I noticed a three-wheeled scooter on the road ahead of us. Then I saw another one in a parking lot on campus:

It's made by Piaggio - same as our scooter. How cool. I have issues driving ours (no laughs please) and I think this would be much easier for me. Kind of like a reverse tricycle. Dan is not as enthusiastic about them. They are a bit wussy, I suppose.

bag it !

Today is the 15th annual NALC Food Drive Day. Residents are asked to leave non-perishable donations—such as canned meat, fish and soup, and cereals, pasta and rice—in a bag near their mailbox today before their letter carrier arrives. It will be taken to the local post office and then delivered to a local food bank, pantry or shelter.

RIP Paul Raymond......

Sad news at Dan's school; the co-founder passed away yesterday morning from congestive heart failure. Dan really liked Paul and thought very highly of him as a person. He was 75.

good god gas prices........

Those are actually last week's prices. Costco and Arco consistently have the lowest prices in the Seattle area. We're not Costco members - and have you ever seen the lines for gas at Costco ? Not convinced the wait is worth the savings. But the weather is turning a corner now and soon this will be our main mode of transportation....

65 mpg ! It only holds two gallons, so the trip to the pump is not quite so painful.

never enough live PJ.....

Pearl Jam is releasing a 7 CD box set of the 2005 and 2006 Gorge shows. Hell yeah ! What fun shows those were. The venue is one of the most spectacular I have been to. You just can't beat that view.......

Eddie sees me in the crowd at last summer's show .......

it's about time ..............

We've decided to get with the times and start a blog to keep up with friends and family. Let us know if there's anything you'd like to see or hear about - we've been known to accomodate from time to time.

Dan and I went to the arboretum at South Seattle Community College in West Seattle yesterday. We're trying to get some inspiration for our backyard. The school has a really good horticulture program and its students design and build the areas of the arboretum.

A new Chinese Garden is currently being worked on and should open soon. Dan ponders the possibilities....

More photos from the jaunt are here.....
