I pass this statue on campus almost every day. It is placed in front of More Hall - home to the Civil Engineering Department. Who the hell is James J. Hill? Why is he in front of the CE department ? Was he not deemed as important as More to have a building named after him ? Only worthy of a statue ? Here's what I found - quite the correlation.
And here he is addressing the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the 1909 AYPE (Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition).
